Huawei, a Chinese telecoms infrastructure company, has won a contract to build a 3G mobile phone network for Omantel after submitting the lowest bid.
The company bid OR17.7m ($46m) to build the network for Oman’s largest mobile phone company, compared with Nokia Siemens which bid OR77m and Ericsson which offered OR56m.

Spanish carrier Telefonica said Friday that it has raised its holding in Chinese fixed line operator, China Netcom, from 5 per cent to 7.22 per cent, at a cost of Eur309m.
Reports suggest that in the future, Telefonica intends to raise its stake to 10 per cent or more.
