CNOOC quits Nigerian oil stake

Mainland largest offshore oil producer China National Offshore Oil Corp (CNOOC) has given up its working interest in oil exploration license (OML) 141 in Nigeria owning to an unclear prospect, the South China Morning Post reported citing an unnamed source.

CNOOC this month agreed to give most of its 35% share back to Nigerian firm Emerald Energy Resources, the project’s operator, according to the source.

Russia: China may take on Poland on the export volumes of apples

During the last five years China has yielded in apples export in Russia to Poland. The shares of two countries totaled 16% and 22%, respectively. However, soon this situation may change, ChinaPro reported. To date, over the half of apples exported from China to Russia comes to the Far East and Siberia.

At the moment, China controls 56% of apple production in the world. The apple yield in China is by 10 times more than in the regions of Russia, during the season-2007/08 they harvested 23 mln tonnes of fruits. At that, Russia took the first place on the apple import with the share of 23% (7 mln tonnes), USDA informed.

Bank of Chile signs 100-mln-USD loan with China Development Bank

The Banco de Chile signed a three-year 100-million-U.S.-dollar loan on Thursday with the China Development Bank (CDB), the Chilean bank said.

The loan is part of a free trade agreement signed by Chile and China in April during an official visit by Chilean President Michelle Bachelet to China.

Chalco Leads Decline in China Aluminum Producers on Export Tax

Aluminum Corp. of China Ltd., China’s biggest producer, fell to the lowest level in 18 months in Hong Kong trading, leading declines by smelters as a new export tax may curb shipments and add to a domestic oversupply.

Aluminum Corp., better known as Chalco, fell as much as 4.9 percent to HK$6.28, the lowest since Dec. 2006, and traded at HK$6.32 at 11:24 a.m. Yunnan Aluminium Co. fell 3.6 percent in Shenzhen.

CNPC Discovers Oil, Gas in Two Kazakhstan Blocks

China National Petroleum Corp. said it has discovered oil and natural gas in two blocks in Kazakhstan as the biggest Chinese oil producer steps up exploration to meet rising domestic demand for energy.

PetroKazakhstan Inc., a unit of China National, made the discoveries in the Karaganda and Doshan blocks, the Beijing- based company said in a statement on its Web site today.

Japan Asks China to Make Progress on Joint Gas Development Deal

Japan’s Foreign Minister concluded a three-day visit to Beijing today after calling on China to move to the “next stage” on an agreement to jointly develop gas fields in the East China Sea.

Foreign Minister Masahiko Komura left for Tokyo after asking Chinese officials to formalize details of the gas development deal, Kazuo Kodama, press secretary for Japan’s Foreign Ministry, told reporters in Beijing late yesterday. Komura, who arrived Aug. 16, attended some Olympic events and met yesterday with State Councilor Dai Bingguo, China’s highest ranking official responsible for foreign relations.
