China’s coal exports could fall further in September as higher export taxes take effect, pushing up international prices and giving Australian producers a stronger hand in upcoming contract negotiations.
China, the world’s largest producer and consumer of coal, on Friday said it would impose an export tax of 10 percent on thermal coal starting Aug. 20, as it seeks to ease a severe power shortage that has forced half the nation to ration electricity.

China’s top energy official said the government has no plan to review oil prices instantly after the Olympic Games, state run Xinhua News agency reported, cited by Reuters.
“Further adjustments in China’s fuel prices would depend on the post-Olympic economic outlook and global commodity prices, ” said Zhang Guobao, head of the National Energy Administration, at a news conference Monday.

Ghanaians within the lower income bracket will soon begin enjoying quality first-hand Chinese cars at affordable prices.
This is in spite of the influx on the Ghanaian automobile market of second-hand imported cars, which recorded 25,000 last year.
Terence Darko, Managing Director of Mechanical Lloyd Company (MLC) Limited, who disclosed this in Accra recently when the company presented its “Facts Behind the Figures,” to the Ghana Stock Exchange, said the decision was in response to demands from customers.

In the sort of cloak and dagger conditions more usually reserved for the clandestine doings of security services spooks than the telco industry, last week more than a hundred China Telecom executives and researchers from all over the People’s Republic held a secret meeting with senior representatives of six CDMA vendors at Beijing’s Tangshan Holiday Conference Centre.
The ostensible purpose of the hush-hush gathering was to test and evaluate the effectiveness of one set of equipment against another for the next phase of China Telecom’s CDMA network deployment.

ZTE USA, Inc., a leading global provider of telecommunications equipment and network solutions, today announced that it has clinched an exclusive bid from Columbia’s leading operator Emcali to build the country’s first WiMAX 16e network. For the 3.5G WiMAX 16e project, ZTE will provide Emcali with core network equipment, wireless access equipment and various outdoor/indoor terminals. Emcali, which was awarded by the Columbian government WiMAX licenses two years ago, has been required to make the network commercially available by end of this year.

Baosteel Group Corporation said it would not cut its shareholding in the listed unit Baoshan Iron & Steel Corp (Baosteel) in the near future as it is very optimistic about the unit’s development.
The remarks were made in response to growing concerns of heavy equity supplies in the weak Chinese stock market. Due to the expiration of a lock-up period related to Baosteel’s shareholding structure, 11.9 billion shares in the listed company, or 68% of its share capital, held by Baosteel Group and other institutional investors will become tradable today.
