Aston Martin opens Shanghai retail center

British luxury car maker Aston Martin has extended its dealership network into China for the first time, with the opening of its showroom in Shanghai on Nov. 29.

The Shanghai Aston Martin Retail Center made its debut after plans for dealerships were announced in mid-2004 in major Chinese cities including Beijing, Shanghai and southern Guangdong. The franchise has been awarded to GruppeM and the flagship store is located in Xintiandi with a 5-car showroom. Another 3-car showroom will be opening in Beijing in early December, accompanied by the Aston Martin Beijing Service Facility located at the city’s Goldenport race circuit.

China Coal plans growth through parent

Following the government’s call for larger coal output and manufacturing facilities, China Coal Energy Co Ltd<1898>  is planning to raise production capacity through a mine purchase from its parent China National Coal Corp.

It was reported that the Beijing-based manufacturer is eying one of the five mines in Shanxi which are undergoing restructuring by parent China National Coal Corp. China Coal’s company secretary Zhou Dongzhu told sources that the recently completed mine was the first to meet the criteria for injection. The new mine, which has an annual capacity of 3 million tons, is expected to be operational by 2008.

MGCL to acquire drilling rig

Mari Gas Company Ltd (MGCL) here on Saturday announced that it has signed the contract for purchase of a brand new oil and gas drilling rig from China.

A press release issued here on Saturday by the company said that the company has entered into an agreement with Honghua Petroleum Equipment Company Ltd headquarters, in Chengdu, China.

CNPC Speeds Up Preparations For Myanmar-China Oil Pipeline

China National Petroleum Corp. is speeding up its preparations to build a crude oil pipeline from Myanmar to the neighboring Yunnan province in China by signing a cooperation agreement with the Yunnan government, an official with CNPC’s listed unit PetroChina Co. (PTR) said Monday.

CNPC and the Yunnan government Sunday signed the strategic agreement which ” will play a significant role to coordinate plans for design and construction of the oil pipeline in future,” said the official, who declined to be identified.

Initial plans for the oil pipeline are for it to run from Myanmar’s western port of Sittwe to Kunming city in Yunnan. Its initial capacity will be 20 million metric tons a year, equivalent to around 400,000 barrels a day.

China’s Coal Output to See Robust Growth in Decade Ahead

China’s coal output is predicted to reach 2.55 billion tons and 3 billion tons in 2007 and 2010 respectively, according to Guo Yuntao, managing director of China Development Research Center of Coal.

China’s coal production would peak between 2020 and 2030 at about 4 billion ton/year, said Guo at the ongoing Coal Tech Asia 2007 in Beijing. By 2010, China would produce over 40 per cent of world coal output, compared to 38 per cent in 2006.

From 2002 to 2006, China’s coal production saw average annual growth of 13 per cent, reaching 2.38 billion tons in 2006.

CORRECTION Peabody in talks with Chinese coal firms on joint exploration

Peabody Energy (NYSE:BTU), the largest coal producer in the US, is discussing joint coal exploration operations in China with several mainland state and private companies, an official of the US firm said.

‘Currently, we are in discussions with several Chinese coal companies, mostly focusing on open-cut mining projects,’ Tayeb Tahir, Peabody China president, said on the sidelines of a coal forum here.
