Sino-Indian Joint Venture Targets Healthcare IT Market

A Sino-Indian joint venture was set up in Kunming, capital of southwest China’s Yunnan Province, this week to carry out research and development of healthcare information technologies and provide telemedicine services to worldwide hospitals.

Sunpa Sobha Software (China) Ltd., with a registered capital of1 million U.S. dollars, is based in Kunming and will have branches in cities of Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Shenzhen. To start with, the company has more than 200 employees.

Rolls Royce to lead China’s high end auto market

Rolls-Royce, a reputable global manufacturer of luxury vehicles, announced the company’s vision to enter the automobile market of second tiers cities in China, thereby establishing its brand in a country that is expected to be the largest luxury market by 2014.

Last year, sales volume of the company increased by 70% from the previous year, amounting to 70 vehicles. While the major cities in China are already saturated with many international automobile companies, Rolls-Royce expressed that second tier cities are the new emerging market as a growing number of people are gaining affluence.

China’s Masteel starts new production line

Maanshan Iron and Steel Co. Ltd (Masteel)<600808><323><MISCF>, one of the largest steel and iron producer in China, announced that a key production line  for sheet metal with annual capacity of 5 million tons started production on Thursday in Anhui.

The production line, with total investment exceeding RMB 20 billion, had been constructed more than 2 years in Maanshan, a city in Anhui in East China. With the new production line, Masteel can produce 16 million tons of iron and steel annually.

China Gas to expand gas reserve in Inner Mongolia

China Gas Holdings Ltd<384>, an operator of natural gas services in China, had entered into an agreement to carry out explorations at a coal bed methane reserve in Wushengqi in the Inner Mongolia region.

Under the terms of the agreement, China Gas will be developing the Nanlihe block located in the city of Ordos, a land that is projected to have more than 3.6 trillion cubic meters of reserves. The block spans a land area of 2,440 sq km  and its reserves are estimated at 110 billion to 300 billion cubic meters.

Shenhua Energy may buy mines in Indonesia, Australia

To satisfy the rising demand of the country, China Shenhua Energy<1088>, the country’s largest coal company, is considering the purchase of mines in Indonesia and Australia.

Amidst rising costs involved in the deployment of coal from the northwestern regions of China resulting from higher land taxes and transportation, the company is now presented with the opportunity to obtain reserves from neighboring countries, which proves to be cost-competitive.

High bean imports on poor harvest

China, the world’s biggest soybean consumer, may import record amounts next year as the domestic harvest falls, Louis Dreyfus Corp said.

Overseas purchases may rise to 34 million metric tons in the marketing year beginning October, from 28.5 million tons this year, Zhu Yufeng, general manager of the trading house’s Beijing office, said at a conference in Shanghai. Imports could even exceed that if demand is greater than expected, he said.
