China Eastern passenger throughput down 2.72% in Oct

China Eastern Airlines<600115><670>, the country’s third largest carrier by fleet size, Wednesday announced it carried 3.55 million passengers in October this year, down 2.72% from a year earlier.
Meanwhile, the passenger load factor slid 4.09% from the same period of 2007, to 72.08%.

During last month, the Shanghai-based carrier carried 2.99 million passengers on domestic routes, a year-on-year increase of 1.64%, while passengers in international and regional routes dropped 25.81% and 8.53%, to 373,670 and 189,400, respectively.

Freight throughput fell 13.94% year-on-year to 75,250 tons in October, with the cargo load factor down 5.75% to 48.46%.

For the first ten months this year, China Eastern Airlines flew a total of 30.93 million passengers, down 5.81% from a year earlier, while cargo throughput fell 1.07% to 754,720 tons.

During the Jan.-Oct. period, the airline’s passenger load factor dropped 2.12% from a year earlier to 71.13%, while its cargo load factor rose 1.27% to 51.61%.

China Eastern was the last of the top three airlines in China to reveal October passenger numbers. The other two, China Southern<600029><1055> and Air China<601111><753>, announced earlier the passenger throughput for the month went up 8.18% and 4.4% to 5.49 million and 3.25 million respectively.
