Zurich starts micro-insurance research project in China

Zurich Financial Service Group, an insurance-based financial services provider headquartered in Zurich, Switzerland, will start a research project on the demand for micro-insurance products in China.

The project will be conducted by the Department of Risk Management and Insurance (DRMI) of Nan Kai University, one of the key universities in China. And Zurich expects DRMI to provide valuable findings to assess the demand and the specific market conditions before launching tailored micro-insurance products in China, according to Brandon Mathews, Zurich’s Head of Microinsurance.

The research will particularly focus on the demand of the low-income Chinese customers and the distribution channels that can provide micro-insurance products in an efficient way.

Zurich is the first foreign insurance company to obtain its own general insurance branch license in Beijing.
