ZTE to supply 5 mln mobile phones to Vodafone
ZTE<000063><763>, one of China’s leading telecoms equipment and solution suppliers, is in talk with the world’s largest mobile service operator Vodafone that may allow ZTE to provide 5 million low-cost mobile phones to the UK-based telecoms giant.
The mobile phones will apply for GSM (Global System for Mobile Communication) standards and are expected to be sold in India, ZTE’s second largest market after the Chinese mainland, said Liang Min, who is in charge of the company’s overseas market.
It is the latest move for ZTE to expand its portfolio in the global market. ZTE has set up 13 regional distribution networks. It also won the cooperation with more than 500 operators in over 120 countries. Its overseas sales revenue has accounted for 52.3% of the company’s total by the end of June 30 this year.
The Chinese telecoms giant also saw great achievement in its mobile phone sector. About 33% of the company’s revenue was generated in this sector. It expects to raise the portion to 50% by the end of 2008.
