ZTE launches world’s first pre-commercial SDR base station
ZTE Corp. announced Monday that it has launched the world’s first pre-commercial SDR (software defined radio) base station, called the ZXGW B8036, which allows the change of frequency bands by switching software instead of hardware, unlike other base stations, allowing it to more easily support different bands.
The base station currently has simultaneous GSM and WCDMA support, and can be modified to to support CDMA and WiMAX in the future, the company said. It can also support the development of “long term evolution” (LTE), a kind of advanced 3G technology.
The company said that the ZTE SDR base station will lower network infrastructure costs for operators and improve network stability. The SDR technology, which is capable of setting operators’ systems to different frequency bands on a large frequency spectrum, will enable operators to easily add new services and features to their networks.
According to the announcement, ZTE has focused on 2G and 3G integrated networks for a long time, and its products of this kind have been implemented in more than 20 countries in Europe, South Asia and Africa. In 2007, ZTE signed 10 WCDMA network infrastructure contracts with operators from Europe, South Asia and Africa. Today, ZTE’s WCDMA network solutions are deployed across more than 30 countries worldwide.
