ZTE inks GSM VAS deals with China Unicom

ZTE Corp<000063><763>, China’s largest listed telecoms manufacturer, announced on Monday it has clinched deals with China Unicom<600050><762> for the GSM network value-added service (VAS) business systems, sources reported.

The deals, representing over 55% of the total amount of China Unicom’s 2008 bulk purchase of GSM VAS systems, are expected to further consolidate ZTE’s leading position in the VAS field, according to the Shenzhen-based company.

Pursuant to the agreement, ZTE will provide nodes for China Unicom’s three major product offerings, namely Color Ring Back Tone (CRBT) Platform, Multimedia Message Service (MMS) Management Platform and WAP Services Management Gateway.

Wang Xiang, vice president of ZTE, said ZTE won the bidding owning to its advantaged technology, adding the company will further help the company to improve its telecom infrastructure in the future.

Reportedly, ZTE had secured around 77% of China Unicom’s intelligent network tender in the first half of 2008.
