Waitakere to sign trade agreement with China

New Zealand’s Waitakee City is to sign a trade agreement with its sister City, Ningbo, one of China’s coastal cities, said Waitakere Mayor Bob Harvey during his recent trip to the Chinese city.

During the trip, five Chinese companies including a car manufacturer, a computer company, a print business, an environmental housing project and a water purification plant, have been identified to have interest in doing business in Waitakere.

Harvey said he expected the agreement to be inked within the following two months, and Bayin Chaolu, the chairman of the Standing Committee of Ningbo People’s Congress would visit as soon as possible to ink the agreement with Waitakere.

Waitakere is the first city in New Zealand to ink such a historic trade agreement with China, which will provide not only the city but the whole country the opportunities to do business with China. Harvey said the move would see its business arm Waitaere Enterprise acting as an agent to find New Zealand companies their Chinese partners.
