Visitor arrivals in HK same as last year

The visitor arrivals in Hong Kong this year is expected to be about the same as last year, HongKong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) government Financial Secretary John Tsang said Sunday.

Hong Kong received almost 30 million visitors from around the world last year, and the tourist numbers are expected to be “about the same this year … despite the global financial crisis,” he said at a groundbreaking ceremony of Hong Kong Disneyland.

Tsang said Hong Kong has invested over 30 billion HK dollars (3. 8 billion U.S. dollars) over the past few years in attractions.

“In the coming few years, we are investing another 17 billion HK dollars (2.2 billion U.S. dollars) in tourism infrastructure,” he said.

The preparatory site work has started on a world-class cruise terminal and Hong Kong authorities will enhance the attraction of popular local tourist spots such as Tsim Sha Tsui, Ngong Ping and Lei Yue Mun.
