Vietnam imports 75% of seed potatoes from China
Vietnam’s seed potato supplies can meet 25 percent of local farmers’ demand for potato production, leaving 75 percent of seed potatoes in the country be imported from China, the Labor newspaper reported Tuesday.
Vietnam is accelerating application of scientific advancements into turning out greater amounts of seed potatoes, while developing its potato acreage, the newspaper quoted Nguyen Tri Ngoc, director of the Cultivation Department under the Vietnamese Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, as saying.
Vietnam plans to increase its potato acreage to 50,000 hectares by 2010 from current 35,000 hectares.
