Thai AirAsia to offer daily flights to Guangzhou
Thailand’s low-fare Asia aviation carrier Thai AirAsia (TAA) is expanding into southern China with the launch of a daily service between Bangkok and Guangzhou in February.
The launch has been approved by the Chinese government which is an obvious signal of TAA’s development strategy for a larger share in the fast-expanding Chinese market, especially in South China, the leading commercial and manufacturing region.
Guangzhou would be the third city in mainland China that TAA serves from its Bangkok’s hub, following Shenzhen in July this year and Xiamen in April 2005.
TAA will become the first carrier to operate low-fare service on the Bangkok-Guangzhou route with an intention of offering more options to passengers and attracting more Chinese outbound travelers.
Guangdong New Baiyun International Airport is one of the three largest air hubs in China. Opened to the public in 2004, it occupies an area of 15 square kilometers. It has a 4E standard flight area, two runways and a terminal of 320, 000 square meters. Serving more than 110 air routes from Guangzhou to over 100 domestic and international cities, the airport has an average annual passenger flow volume of about 25 million.
