Taiwan’s PC monitor output drops by 14.8 % in Q1

Taiwan’s personal computer monitor output totaled 387,608 units in the first quarter of the year, representing a drop of 14.8 percent from the previous quarter, or an annual decline of 2.2 percent, due to a recession in both household and commercial demand, the International Data Corp. (IDC) reported yesterday.

IDC analyst Kim Hye-jin said the local commercial market has appeared conservative in procurement, affected by uncertainty in the economic and political environment.

She also observed that low consumer confidence permeated the market during the period.

However, Q1 a is traditionally low season for the industry, Kim noted, saying that after reporting negative growth in both 2006 and 2007 in the LCD monitor output, the local market is expected to provide a slightly increasing demand this year.

The Q1 LCD monitor output amounted to 324,829 units, registering a decline of 10.2 percent from the previous quarter, or a drop of 3.6 percent from the same period of last year, according to the IDC, a leading global market intelligence and advisory firm in the information technology telecommunications industry.
