Slovenia seeks greater investment
Slovenia is looking to boost bilateral trade with China and attract more Chinese investment, Slovenia’s Minister for the Economy Andrej Vizjak said yesterday in Shanghai.
“The bilateral economic relations between Slovenia and China are on a positive path. In Slovenia we are noticing a growing interest in doing business with China,” said Vizjak during the Slovenia-Shanghai Economic Forum.
“I sincerely believe there is still a great potential for an increase in our trade exchanges, the enhancement of cooperation in the field of investment and the strengthening of our economic ties in general.”
Trade between Slovenia, a member of the European Union, and China grew 36 percent year on year to 407 million euros (US$275 million) in 2007. The figure so far this year also presented a positive trend, said Vizjak.
More than 30 Slovene companies had established representative offices in China, mostly in automobile, electric, chemical, footwear and textile industries, he said. But China’s investment in Slovenia was still very limited compared with other EU members. A Memorandum of Understanding on Two-Way Investment Promotion Cooperation between the Public Agency of the Republic of Slovenia for Entrepreneurship and Foreign Investments and the Shanghai Foreign Investment Development Board was signed yesterday.
