Shenyang Aircraft Corp to produce planes for Cessna

Shenyang Aircraft Corp (SAC), a subsidiary of the country’s state-owned China Aviation Industry Corporation (AVIC) I, will be the sole supplier of a new light sport aircraft for Cessna, the world’s largest general aviation airplane manufacturer, announced the company on Wednesday.

Under the agreement between the two partners, SAC will assemble the Cessna 162 SkyCatcher, which debuted in July 2006, for export, while Cessna will assist in design, on-site support and quality supervision.

The Cessna will be sold at US$109,500 for the first 1,000 orders and at higher price of 111,500 afterwards. Cessna has already got orders for 900 units. The first Cessna 162 is scheduled to debut in November next year and mass production will begin after it passes quality tests.

The agreement is an important move for the more than 50-year old Chinese aircraft manufacturer, which also provides products for Boeing, Airbus, Bombardier, Spirit AeroSystems and Singapore Aerospace.
