PetroChina to expand gas pipeline network on strong demand

PetroChina<601857><857>, the nation’s top oil producer, plans to double the length of its natural gas pipelines by 2015, the company’s parent China National Petroleum Corp (CNPC) said in a statement on its website.

CNPC said that PetroChina will add 21,000 km of new gas pipelines by the end of 2015 due to the increasing market demand for the cleaner fuel, and the total length of pipelines will be expanded to 43,000 km.

As part of the nation’s second west-east gas pipeline stretching from Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region to Guangdong Province, this expansion will be able to deliver 30 million cubic meters of gas from Central Asia per year.

However, the company didn’t reveal the investment amount for this project.
