Hong Kong set to launch new CDMA 3G service in Nov

The new CDMA 2000-standard third-generation mobile service is expected to be launched in Hong Kong in November, and the auction for spectrum in the 2.3GHz and 2.5GHz bands for providing Broadband Wireless Access service is set to launch in the fourth quarter, Marion Lai, Director-General of Telecommunications said in Hong Kong on Wednesday.

The number of mobile subscribers in Hong Kong has exceeded 10 million since last October, and consumers in Hong Kong will be able to enjoy more innovative mobile and fixed wireless broadband services soon.

In 2007, Hong Kong’s wireless communication services remained a robust growth, including mobile, SMS and public WiFi services, therefore it becomes one of the most advanced wireless cities in the world.
