Chinese Exports of Toys Surge 20% in 10 Months, Xinhua Reports
China’s exports of toys rose 20 percent in the first 10 months of last year from 2006, the official Xinhua News Agency said, despite recalls of products over lead paint and design flaws.
The exports were worth $7.07 billion between January and October, the agency said, citing customs figures. Toy exports to European and North American markets recovered and those to emerging markets grew rapidly, Xinhua said.
The growth for the period was 13.9 percentage points higher than the year-earlier level, despite global recalls of Chinese-made products over quality problems, the agency said.
China sold $3.06 billion worth of toys to the U.S. during the period, an increase of 13.3 percent from a year earlier. Exports to the European Union were worth $1.72 billion, an increase of 29.9 percent from the same period in 2006, the report said.
