China’s crude steel production in April rises 10.2% on year
China’s crude steel production in April 2008 increased 10.2% year on year to 44.68 million mt, according to latest figures from the National Bureau of Statistics, China.
Crude steel output for the first four months of the year was 169.78 million mt up 9.1% from a year ago.
Steel products output for the month reached 51.62 million mt, which was 11.7% more compared with the same month in 2007. Steel products output between January and April totaled 192.35 million mt, 12% higher year on year.
China also produced 41.27 million mt of pig iron in April, which was an increase of 9.1% from a year ago. Pig iron production in the four-month period totaled 159.31 million mt, up 8.3% from the year-earlier period.
Meanwhile, the country produced 1 million automobiles in April, an increase of 22.2% year on year, the bureau figures showed. China produced 3.59 million automobiles in January-April, up 17.4% year on year.
