China Unicom gets go-ahead to use China Mobile’s base stations

Plans for China Unicom to plug holes in its GSM coverage by using some of China Mobile’s base stations have been approved by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), a source from China Mobile’s Shanghai subsidiary confirmed on Oct. 6.

In a move sure to put a dent in China Mobile’s subscriber-base, the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology is trialling number portability in two regions.

The ban on number portability is suspected to be a major reason why China Mobile maintains such a stranglehold on the country’s telecommunications market – customers are reluctant to switch and lose their existing phone numbers.

And rumours abound that the Chinese government is considering more regulations aimed at limiting this stranglehold.

An official of China Mobile revealed, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) is considering a new topic:China Unicom gets go-ahead to use China Mobile’s base stations.

That is mean, the network layout of the advantages of China Mobile gradually disappeared.

The rumor said ,This policy has been adopted. If there is no unexpected events, It can be implemented in November.
