China Unicom further expands GSM network capacity
China’s second largest mobile service operator China Unicom Ltd. (600050.SH; 0762.HK; CHU.NYSE) has started the 11th-phase expansion project of its GSM network, indicating the company’s network upgrade work, involving more than 20 billion yuan, approaches the end, according to news.ccidnet.com.
The key of the latest capacity expansion project is to build GPRS core network and upgrade GSM wireless network and HLR. After the project, China Unicom’s GSM network will reach the international level in terms of both network speed and transmission quality.
Besides, it is learned China Unicom has opened GPRS services in 259 cities across China. The company said its GPRS network will cover all Chinese cities and realize nationwide roaming next year.
