China Shenhua Energy coal output up 17.4% in Jul

China Shenhua Energy Co Ltd, the country’s largest coal producer announced on Thursday its coal output in July hit 16.2 million tons, up 17.4% year-on-year.

In July, it sold 19.4 million tons of coal, up 12.1% from a year earlier, of which 1.9 million tons were exported.

The Beijing-based company did not disclose reasons for growth in coal output and sales.

Shenhua announced on Monday that its coal output rose to 115 million tons for the first half of this year, a year-on-year increase of 17.7%. However, its exports fell 13.1% from a year earlier to 10.6 million tons, as the government cut back on overseas shipments to cope with the domestic shortages of coal needed for power generation.

The coal producer, which also operates railways, ports and power plants, said power output in July jumped 39.5% year on year to 10.12kWh, while 9.47 billion kWh of electricity was sold, up 38.2%.

The Shanghai and Hong Kong-dual listed company posted net profits of RMB 16.025 billion in first half year, an increment of 35.7% year on year.
