The Chinese government and the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) have signed a fifth supplementary accord to the Closer Economic Partnership Arrangement (CEPA), aiming to open further the mainland market to Hong Kong, China’s commerce ministry said.

The ministry said in a statement on its website that under the new arrangement, the mainland will introduce 29 liberalisation measures in 17 service areas.

Fifteen of these are currently covered including banking, tourism, convention and exhibition, shipping, air transport and medical, while two are new - mining services and science & technology consulting services.

The new arrangement has introduced more liberalized measures in the medical and distribution sectors, the ministry said without elaborating. The new supplementary accord takes effect on 01-Jan, the ministry added.
