Goods imported from China accounted for 11.3% of Brazil’s total imports during the Jan-Jun period, which is 1.4 percentage points more than that of the same period of last year.

Newspaper reports said Brazil imported Chinese goods worth about US$7.2 billion in Jan-May, up 72.1% year-on-year.

Reports said Brazil’s imports from Argentina increased 34% from a year earlier, accounting for 7.9% of its total imports, down 1 percentage point from last year. E.U.’s exports to Brazil rose 41% (21% of total imports of Brazil). Imports from the U.S. grew 33.3%, accounting for 14.4% of Brazil’s total imports, down 2 percentage points year-on-year.

Brazil’s domestic industry has not been affected by higher imports, according to official sources. Research statistics show that capacity utilization by Brazil’s factories remains high, though some industries are facing challenges from imported products.
