CLP’s unit to invest in Australian solar power project

CLP Holdings, one of the two Hong Kong electricity companies, announced on its own website yesterday that it has expanded its renewable energy portfolio into solar technology with its Australian subsidiary, TRUenergy, which has inked a deal with Melbourne-based Solar Systems to develop a solar photovoltaic power station in Australia.

New Zealand, China to ink free trade pact

New Zealand will sign a free trade agreement with China in early April, the government announced Tuesday — the first such deal between the Asian economic powerhouse and a developed economy.
Trade Minister Phil Goff said outstanding technical requirements and processes to finalize the deal “are on track for completion” in coming weeks.

Shenhua Energy 2007 net profit soars 19.4%

China Shenhua Energy Co, the nation’s biggest coal producer by output, posted its unaudited 2007 net profit soared 19.4% year-on-year to hit RMB23.15 billion (US$3.24 billion) according to domestic accounting standards, said the company in a filing with the Hong Kong Stock Exchange.

Gold rises to record on strong demand in China

The robust demand of gold in China, United Arab Emirates (UAE) and India, has been pushing up the gold price, traders said on Monday.
The yellow metal hit record highs of Rs 22,195 per tola, equivalent to Rs 18,960 per ten grams in bullion market, while it reached US$949.10 per ounce in the international market.
