IMF lowers forecasts for global economic growth

The International Monetary Fund(IMF) lowered on Tuesday its forecasts for U.S. and global economic growth in 2008 but expected the U.S. economy to avoid recession.
U.S. growth is projected by the IMF to slow to 1.5 percent this year, down from 2.2 percent last year and 1.9 percent estimated by the institution in October 2007.
