CNOOC launches nation’s first offshore plant

China National Offshore Oil Corp (CNOOC), the nation’s largest offshore oil producer, announced yesterday it had commenced operating the nation’s first offshore wind power plant.
The wind power plant has an installed capacity of 1.5 megawatts (MW). It is located at the company’s Bohai Suizhong 36-1 oilfield, 70 kilometers off the coast.

China to export 50% fewer steel billets next year

 Higher production cost will lower China’s export of steel billets by at least 50 percent in 2008, said Qi Xiangdong, vice secretary general of the China Iron and Steel Association.
Speaking at the third Forum on   Wednesday, Qi predicted that steel products will also drop by some one percent compared with 2007.
